I am not a psychologist, psychiatrist, or therapist. I am an average person who has a lifetime of experience of living through the many expressions and episodes of depression.
This is my journal of 90 days of action and reflection in order to reverse a dramatic downward spiral in my depression. I ran out of runway. I was going to crash. I had to commit to action. Everything depended on it.
As a professional master coach, my interest in making my reflections available to you is the hope that it helps you in your own journey to change your experience of depression – by complimenting your current treatment (whatever traditional or alternative approach that might be) with a programme of action and reflection.
These 90 days had a profound impact on me.
I had run out of runway. I could no longer wait to feel better before I started to live better.
I had to act. I deliberately started to live and think better, and then I started to feel better.
Behavioural activation involves selecting and committing to behaviours that are valuable and meaningful, and then keeping a log or journal of those behaviours and thoughts, and their impact over a period of time. This can be done independently or with the support of a coach, therapist, or group.
